Meet the Founder
Hello, I’m Makesha Edwards, Founder of Spectrum Sisters, Parent Advocate, and Education & Discrimination Case Officer.
When you’re trying to secure the right support for your child, it can often feel like you’re expected to become an expert overnight. Endless paperwork, unfamiliar terminology, meetings, deadlines and difficult decisions can leave families feeling exhausted and unsure where to turn.
That’s where I come in.
I founded Spectrum Sisters to provide families with clear, practical and compassionate advocacy. My role is to help you understand your rights, navigate complex education and welfare systems with confidence, and ensure that your child or loved one receives the support they are entitled to.
My passion for advocacy comes from both professional and personal experience. I understand how overwhelming these processes can feel, and I believe every family deserves someone who will listen, explain things clearly and stand alongside them.
My Professional Journey
My advocacy career began at SENDIASS, where I developed a strong understanding of SEND legislation, statutory duties and the legal framework surrounding special educational needs and disabilities.
Since then, I have supported children, young people and adults across a wide range of matters, including Education, Health and Care Plans, disability discrimination, welfare benefits and Tribunal proceedings.
Alongside working directly with families, I also deliver training and guidance to schools, professionals and community organisations to promote inclusive practice and improve understanding of SEND.
